The story
"With Love, Victoria" is a musical podcast that brings to life the diaries of Queen Victoria and explores what was erased by her daughter Princess Beatrice. Of 141 volumes the Queen wrote during her lifetime, Princess Beatrice left only 111 after she had edited her late mother's diaries. This serialized podcast dramatizes what once was and what may have been erased from history.
Development
Rachel began writing With Love, Victoria while sitting in the audience of a writer’s conference in November of 2017. After scribbling the first lyrics of “Kensington System”, the project was a slow process of doing research and attempting to create a new story to tell about this ubiquitous queen.
After devouring countless biographies and spending hours reading through what has been made available of Queen Victoria’s diaries, Rachel realized she was most interested in the story that was not being told, and perhaps had been lost to time.
With Love, Victoria had its first reading in October 2019, after which it became clear that the span of such a life, and so much erased, was to great for one evening of theatre. After a year of rewriting and expanding, the show has transitioned from a musical theatre to production to a musical theatre podcast.
With Love, Victoria, the musical podcast premiered on January 11th, 2021 and released its final episode on February 8th, 2022.
